GC2 Church Summer D-Groups
June 30 - August 31, 2019
What Are D-Groups? D-groups are opportunities for intentional, accelerated spiritual growth through groups of men or women encouraging each other to read the Word, sharing their stories, becoming more like Christ, and taking steps of faith.
Program: Summer D-groups will meet weekly for 8 weeks from June 30th to Aug. 31st. Between meetings D-group members will read and ponder the same Bible passages, memorize the same Bible verses, strive to live obedient lives, and support and pray for each other.
What to Expect: Expect to be with like-minded believers facing similar challenges. Expect God to teach you and change you. Expect more discipline and joy in your spiritual life.
The Difference Between D-Groups and Small Groups: Small groups are open to anyone at any time. D-groups require commitment and participation as described in the summer D-group covenant. Once a D-group starts no additional members can be added.
2019 Summer D-Group Covenant
D-Group Members Are Asked To Make The Following Promises:
- I pledge myself fully to the Lord with the anticipation that I am entering a time of accelerated spiritual transformation by participating in a D-group.
- I will complete all weekly assignments (Bible reading, contemplation, and memorization; acts of faith) before my D-Group meeting, in order to contribute to the discussion.
- I will meet with my D-Group for approximately one and one-half hours every week, unless it is impossible for me to do so. If I cannot commit to coming 6 or more time during the summer, I will wait to join another time when I can.
- I will contribute to an atmosphere of confidentiality, honesty, and transparency for the building up of others in my D-group as well as for my own spiritual growth.
- I will support, encourage, and pray every week for the others in my D-group who are on the same discipleship journey with me.
- I will begin praying about continuing my discipleship journey with a 9-month long D-group starting in September after this summer group finishes.
GC2 Church Summer Bible Reading And Memorization Project
This summer follow the Bible reading and memorization schedule below and journal what you are “hearing” from God from the Word each time you read. For the sake of consistency, everyone participating in D-groups is asked to use the following 4-step journaling format:
H = Highlight one or more verses from your daily Bible reading that standouts and then focus your attention on the verse(s).
E = Explain to yourself why the highlighted verse(s) was significant to you.
A = Apply by stating how the verse(s) could affect your thoughts, feelings, relationships, or actions.
R = Respond by committing to one or more acts of obedience to what you have learned from the above.
