Sermon Summary:
Malachi, set within post-exilic life under the Persian empire, the remnant of God’s people find a lie that does not match their expectations. Disillusionment sets in, and their faith becomes a matter of routine rather than passion and genuine engagement. Their disappointment led to a dangerous cynicism, encapsulated in the attitude of "quiet quitting" their faith, doing the spiritual bare minimum while inwardly questioning God's goodness and unchanging love. Malachi addresses this complacency through a powerful, confrontational question-and-answer format.
In today’s message, Pastor Jason shows how God’s response reminds the people of His unchanging, covenant love—a love that is irrevocable, electing, and far-reaching. For those in Christ, we also experience the same aspects of God’s covenant love through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.God’s love in Christ is not based on our performance or circumstances, but on His own faithfulness. We often are tempted to “quiet quit” in our spiritual lives, not fully resigning nor fully engaging; we must seek to rediscover God’s unchanging love as those who have been chosen in Christ (Eph. 1:1-10).
The good news that believers proclaim, has roots in the message Malachi proclaimed, in that God’s blessing will one day flow beyond Israel’s borders (Mal. 1:5). God’s far reaching covenant love is found in Christ’s far-reaching love for the entire world (John 3:16). For those who confess, repent and put their faith in the Son, you can experience God’s far-reaching love that extends to all nations and people (Rev. 5:9).
